Problem

Modern families often struggle to stay organised amid busy and overlapping schedules.

They want to find a more convenient way to manage and share the family schedule and routines.

The goal

To provide a centralised, family-friendly app that simplifies everyday planning and coordination.

The app allows families to manage schedules better, communicate more clearly and build more organised routines together.

Solution

An app that is…

Key features

Dashboard

The home screen offers a clear, visual overview of all app features — calendar, tasks, meals, lists, and more — allowing the whole family to navigate and stay organised from one central screen.

Daily, weekly, monthly overview

The calendar provides flexible daily, weekly, and monthly views with color-coded events, helping users easily coordinate short- and long-term plans across all family members.

Meal planner

The Meal Planner helps families simplify weekly food planning by combining scheduling and recipe organisation in one place.

Lists

The Lists feature provides a flexible, organised space for managing all types of family needs — from groceries and household tasks to to-dos, reminders, and notes.

research

Methodologies

User insight research, personas and journey mapping.

User insight research

I conducted qualitative research by exploring online forums and discussion platforms. I focused on threads where users shared which apps and tools they use to coordinate family schedules, tasks and routines.

By analysing these conversations, I gathered insights into common frustrations, feature requests, and workarounds families use in their daily lives.

Common pain points

1

Fragmented tools and communication

The app allows families to manage schedules better, communicate more clearly and build more organised routines together.

2

Overlapping or missed appointments

Without a shared overview, important events or tasks are forgotten or double-booked.

3

Communication is not effective

Coordination between adults and kids is difficult. Parents want kids to be part of the routine but find existing tools too complex or not family-oriented.

4

No support for building routines

Families need help establishing recurring structures (e.g., chores, bedtime routines, weekly planning).

The challenge

How might we design a family-friendly app that brings schedules, tasks, and routines into one clear and collaborative space?

Personas

To better understand the needs, behaviours, and frustrations of modern families, I created user personas based on research insights. These personas represent key family roles and helped guide design decisions.

Reflection

This was my first time designing a mobile app, which gave me a valuable opportunity to learn mobile design and practice my UX research skills.

Next steps

The next important step is to make a prototype and conduct usability studies.
